Use fluocinolone exactly as directed. Do not use it more often or use more or less of it or than prescribed by your physician.

Do not apply fluocinolone to other areas of your body. Unless your doctor instructs you to, do not bandage or wrap the treated area .

Unless doing so irritates your skin, thoroughly soak or wash the affected area before applying fluocinolone. Apply sparingly in a thin film. Gently rub it in.

Use the shampoo as you would any normal shampoo. Wet hair and scalp. Apply the shampoo. Gently massage scalp. Thoroughly rinse with water.

To use on your scalp, part hair at the affected area, apply a small amount and rub it in gently. Protect that area from rubbing until the medicine dries. Your may wash your hair as usual but not right after applying fluocinolone.

Avoid prolonged use on your face, in armpits and skin creases and in the genital and rectal areas, unless directed by your doctor.

If you are using fluocinolone on your face, avoid getting it in your eyes.

If you are using fluocinolone on a baby's diaper area, do not use plastic pants or tight-fitting diapers. They may increase side effects.

Unless your physician approves, do not apply cosmetics or any other skin preparations on the treated area

If you are instructed to wrap or bandage the treated area, do the this:

  • Soak the affected area in water. Or wash it well.

  • While your skin is still moist, gently rub in the medicine.

  • Cover the treated area with plastic wrap (such as Saran Wrap or Handi-Wrap). The plastic wrap can be held in place with some adhesive tape or with a gauze or elastic bandage on normal skin, next to the treated area. If you are treating your hands, plastic gloves may be used instead of plastic wrap. If you are treating your feet, a plastic bag may be used. A shower cap can be used for the scalp.

  • Carefully seal the edges of the plastic wrap to make sure the it adheres closely to the skin. If the affected area is still moist, you may leave the edges of the plastic wrap unsealed a little. Alternatively, you can puncture the wrap to allow excess moisture to escape.

  • Plastic wraps are usually left in place no more than 12 hours a day. Follow the directions given by your physician.

  • Each time a new plastic wrap is applied, cleanse the skin and reapply the medicine.

Consult with your doctor if the treated area becomes worse or if swelling, redness, burning, or oozing of pus develops.

Do not abruptly stop treatment without discussing it with your doctor.
