WHAT IS ROZEREM?

Rozerem (ramelteon) is the first new medication for insomnia developed in over 35 years. It works differently from other insomnia drugs, affecting the chemicals in your brain which cause sleep. It stimulates the melatonin receptors which make sure your body's internal clock runs properly. It is this internal clock which tells your body when to get tired.

Rozerem is not addivtive and can be prescribed for long term use.

HOW TO USE ROZEREM

Take your dose of Rozerem with a full glass of water, with or without food, within 30 minutes of going to bed. Do not crush or chew the tablets.

Do not engage in much activity during this time, other than preparing for bed.

Use Rozerem only if you have a full 8 hours to devote to sleep.

Do not take Rozerem with (or soon after) consuming a high fat meal.

ROZEREM PRECAUTIONS

Do not use Rozerem if you have a hypersensitivity to ramelteon or any of its components.

Do not use other sleeping pills, sedatives or tranquilizers, including over-the-counter medications, while using Rozerem.

Since Rozerem may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Therefore, avoid activities which require mental alertness until you know how this drug affects you.

Do not consume alcohol while using Rozerem since it may increase drowsiness and dizziness.

Do not take more Rozerem than prescribed.

If you have any of the following conditions, you may not be able to use Rozerem, or you may need a lower dose or require special monitoring:

• liver disease
• sleep apnea
• depression
• severe hepatic impairment
• suicidal thoughts

OLDER ADULTS

People over 65 years of age may be more likely to experience side effects from Rozerem and may need to take a lower dose.

ROZEREM and PREGNANCY

It is unknown whether or not Rozerem will harm an unborn baby. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, tell your doctor before taking Rozerem.

ROZEREM and BREAST FEEDING

It is not known if Rozerem passes into breast milk. If you are breast feeding, discuss it with your doctor before taking Rozerem.

ROZEREM DRUG INTERACTIONS

Do not use Rozerem if you are taking Fluvox (fluvoxamine).

Tell your doctor about any prescription and non-prescription medications, vitamins, supplements or herbal products you take, especially:

• Rifadin (rifampin)
• Nizoral (ketoconazole)
• Diflucan (fluconazole)

ROZEREM SIDE EFFECTS

Call your doctor if you experience any of the following:

• drowsiness during the day
• behavior modification - more outgoing, aggression, agitation, other unusual behavior
• memory loss
• confusion
• hallucinations
• depression not experiences before taking Rozerem
• lessened sex drive
• fertility problems
• loss of menstrual period

ROZEREM ALLERGIC REACTIONS

Get immediate medical help if you suspect a Rozerem overdose. Symptoms may include:

• closing of your throat
• difficulty breathing
• hives
• swelling of your lips, face or tongue

MISSED DOSES

Missing a dose of Rozerem is not a problem since it is only prescribed to help sleep.

STORAGE

Store Rozerem at room temperature away from excessive moisture and heat. Do not store in the bathroom.
