WHAT IS ZOLOFT?

Zoloft for Depression

Zoloft is used to treat panic attacks, depression, obsessive compulsive disorders (OCD), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Zoloft works to help restore balance to certain natural chemicals in the brain.

Zoloft is also used to treat a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (premenstrual dysphoric disorder- PMDD) and sexual problems in men (premature ejaculation).

HOW TO USE

Take Zoloft tablets by mouth, usually once daily. Take with or without food (or as directed by your medical provider).

It is best to take your dosage at the same time each day. Take Zoloft either in the morning or in the evening.

The dosage varies based on your medical condition and your response to therapy.

It is important to continue taking Zoloft as prescribed even if you feel better.

It may take up to 4 weeks before the full benefit of Zoloft takes effect.

Do not stop taking Zoloft without consulting with your doctor.

ZOLOFT SIDE EFFECTS

If any of these Zoloft side effects continue or get worse, notify your doctor.

ZOLOFT DRUG INTERACTIONS

Serious, even fatal, drug interactions with certain medications taken with Zoloft may occur.
For 2 weeks before or after taking Zoloft, avoid taking MAO inhibitors, for example:

  • linezolid
  • furazolidone
  • moclobemide
  • isocarboxazid
  • selegiline
  • phenelzine
  • tranylcypromine
  • procarbazine

Zoloft is not recommended for use with:

  • weight loss drugs, for example
    • sibutramine
    • phentermine
  • terfenadine
  • astemizole

  • other SSRI antidepressants, for example:
    • fluoxetine

    • amitriptyline
    • nortriptyline

  • cimetidine

    • warfarin

  • any herbal/natural products, for example
    • ayahuasca
    • melatonin
    • St. John's wort

  • propafenone
  • trazodone
  • tryptophan

Tell your doctor if you use drugs that may cause drowsiness, for example:

  • anti-anxiety drugs (e.g., diazepam)
  • certain antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine)
  • anti-seizure drugs (e.g., carbamazepine)
  • sleep medicine
  • sedatives
  • tranquilizers
  • narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine)
  • muscle relaxants
  • psychiatric medicines (e.g., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine)

Tell your doctor if you take drugs which affect the heart rhythm (QTc prolongation), for example:

  • procainamide
  • dofetilide
  • pimozide
  • quinidine
  • sotalol
  • sparfloxacin
  • diuretics, for example:
    • furosemide
    • hydrochlorothiazide

ZOLOFT OVERDOSE

If a Zoloft overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center (1-800-222-1222) or emergency room (911) immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include:

  • irregular heartbeat
  • lightheadedness
  • severe dizziness

NOTES

Do not share Zoloft with others.

Your doctor may perform laboratory and/or medical tests monitor your progress.

MISSED DOSE

If you miss a dose, take the dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip your missed dose. Then resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

STORAGE

Store Zoloft at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) Keep away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom.
