Finish the full course prescribed by your doctor, even if you think your condition is better. Do not stop taking tetracycline except on your doctor's advice.
Consult your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of tetracycline in children. Special precautions may be needed.
TETRACYCLINE AND ACNE
Tetracycline is the most frequently prescribed medication to treat acne. It works by killing bacteria in and around the follicles. It also reduces the irritating chemicals produced by the white blood cells.
Tetracycline is also used to treat rosacea and perioral dermatitis.
TETRACYCLINE DRUG INTERACTIONS
Tell your doctor about all other prescription and non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products you are taking. Also tell your doctor if you are a frequently consume caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way tetracycline works.
Do not stop or start any of your medicines without consulting your doctor.

Tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve in 2 to 3 days.
Do not take tetracycline immediately before going to bed. It may not dissolve properly in your stomach when you are lying down and may cause pain in your throat.
Stay out of the sun or wear protective clothing outdoors. Use a sunscreen. Do not use tanning beds, tanning booths or sun lamps.
Make sure you are getting enough vitamin B. Ask your doctor for advice if you think you are short of this vitamin.
Birth control pills may not work properly while you are taking tetracycline. Use an additional method of birth control for at least one month.
If you are taking tetracycline to treat a sexually transmitted disease, avoid sexual contact until you have finished your treatment. Your sexual partner may also need to be treated.
Tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking tetracycline if you are going to have surgery.
Antacid can cause tetracycline to be ineffective. If you want to use an antacid for an upset stomach, make sure it is at least 2 hours since you last took tetracycline, or 4 hours before your next dose.
Zinc and iron preparations can also keep tetracycline from working properly.
Never use tetracycline if it is beyond the expiration date. You can become seriously ill.
TETRACYCLINE and PREGNANCY
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant.
TETRACYCLINE and BREAST FEEDING
Tell your doctor if you are breast feeding.
If you miss a tetracycline dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the next dose. Do not take extra doses to make up.
There should be an interval of at least 4 to 6 hours between doses.
Keep tetracycline in its original container and out of the reach of children in a container that small children cannot open.
Store at room temperature between 15—30 degrees C (59—86 degrees F). Keep out of sunlight.
Discard any unused medicine after the expiration date.
