Triamcinolone nasal spray is a steroidal spray which works directly on the nasal tissue to reduce inflammation and swelling. It is used to treat nasal congestion, postnasal drip, runny nose, nasal itching, and sneezing associated with allergic rhinitis.

To get the most benefit from triamcinolone, be sure you understand how to properly use the nasal spray. Ask your physician or pharmacist to demonstrate.

Shake well first. The triamcinolone must reach the nasal tissue to be effective. First blow your nose to clear the nasal passage. If your passages are blocked, you may use a nasal decongestant before using triamcinolone (for a maximum of 5 days) to open the passages to allow proper penetration of the medication. Aim the spray away from the middle of your nose, that is, away from the nasal septum. Rather, aim it toward the inflamed areas inside the nasal passages.

Use triamcinolone exactly as prescribed. It must be used routinely to be effective. Do not increase your dose or use it more frequently than directed unless your doctoradvises you to do so.

It may be a few days before the benefits of triamcinolone are noticed. Call your physician if you experience no improvement in your sysmptoms after 2 to 3 weeks.

If sores or injuries are present in your nasal passages, use triamcinolone with caution.

If these triamcinolone side effects continue or become bothersome, call your doctor:

  • nosebleed
  • burning, stinging, irritation, or dryness of the nasal passages
  • lightheadedness
  • headache
  • loss of taste
  • throat irritation
  • nausea
  • sneezing

These triamcinolone side affects are unlikely, but promptly report them to your doctor:

  • persistent nose or throat soreness/irritation
  • white patchy areas

These triamcinolone side effects are very unlikely, but promptly report them to your doctor:

  • broken or damaged nasal membranes
  • vision changes
  • dizziness
  • nausea/vomiting
  • weight loss
  • weakness

If you notice other symptoms not listed above, contact your medical care provider.

Triamcinolone should be used with caution if you have any of the following medical conditions:

  • allergies to corticosteroids
  • existing nasal sores
  • herpes-type infection of the eye
  • other infection
  • glaucoma
  • liver disease
  • recent nasal surgery
  • underactive thyroid
  • tuberculosis

Though it is very unlikely, it is possible that triamcinolone will be absorbed into your bloodstream. If it is, it may have undesirable consequences which may require additional corticosteroid treatment. This is especially true for children and for those who have used triamcinolone for an extended period if they also have serious medical conditions such as infections, serious injuries, or surgeries. This precaution applies for up to one year after stopping triamcinolone use. Consult your physician or pharmacist for more details.

Caution is advised in children because triamcinolone may affect growth patterns. Consult child's doctor.

If you are pregnant, triamcinolone should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your physician.

It is not known if this form of triamcinolone is excreted into breast milk. However, other dosage forms of triamcinolone have been found to be excreted into breast milk. Consult your physician before breast-feeding.

Tell your doctor about all medications you use, prescription and over-the-counter. Particularly mention other nasal products.

If overdose is suspected, immediately call your local poison control center at (1-800-222-1222). Or call emergency services at (911).

If you miss a dose of Triamcinolone, use it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Notify your physician if you have no improvement in your symptoms after 3 weeks of use. A different medicine may be prescribed or your dose may need adjusting.

Inform all your doctors that you are using triamcinolone now, or have used it in the past.

Triamcinolone will not significantly relieve itching or watering eyes often associated with allergies.

Each bottle contains approximately 100-120 sprays.

Do not start or stop this or any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Store at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture. Do not allow to freeze.
