Nasacort nasal spray is a steroidal spray which works directly on the nasal tissue to reduce swelling and inflammation. It is used to treat runny nose, nasal itching, nasal congestion, postnasal drip and sneezing associated with allergic rhinitis.

To get the most benefit from Nasacort, make sure you understand how to properly use the nasal spray. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to demonstrate.

Shake well before using. The Nasacort must reach the nasal tissue to be effective. Blow your nose first to clear the nasal passage. If your passages are blocked, you may use a nasal decongestant first (for a maximum of 5 days) to open the passages to allow proper penetration of the medicine. Be sure to aim spray away from the middle of your nose, that is, away from the nasal septum. Aim it toward the inflamed areas inside the nasal passages.

Use Nasacort exactly as prescribed. To be effective, it must be used routinely. Do not either increase your dose or use it more frequently than directed without your doctor's approval.

It may be a few days before the benefits of Nasacort are noticed. Consult your doctor if you experience no improvement in your sysmptoms after 2 to 3 weeks.

If sores or injuries are present in your nasal passages, use Nasacort with caution.

Though very unlikely, it is possible that Nasacort will be absorbed into your bloodstream. If that happens, it may have undesirable consequences that may require additional corticosteroid treatment. This is especially true for children and also for those who have used Nasacort for an extended period if they also have serious medical conditions such as serious injuries, infections or surgeries. This precaution applies for up to one year after stopping Nasacort use. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

Caution is advised in children because Nasacort may affect growth patterns. Consult child's doctor.

If you are pregnant, Nasacort should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
